What IS Garden 53?

Garden 53 is a Walled Garden as a Service^[1] or... "WGaaS".

Put simply Garden 53 is a "DNS Firewall"; and a DNS Firewall, also known as a Response Policy Zone or RPZ is a clever way of using DNS to prevent the devices on your network from correctly resolving the malicious domain names associated with Ransomware, malware, botnet C2 and any number of other known malicious parts of the Internet. The Walled Garden bit means that we'll keep your DNS traffic Safe and send you to a landing page if you try to access something nasty.

We don't just stop at DNS Firewall though... It's all well and good to not be sent to these nasty parts of the Internet but it's even BETTER if we tell you (or your nominated IT Contractor) what nasty parts you tried to access! This provides you with the information needed to take action and remediate your network.

So Why use a DNS Firewall?

Good question! There are many good answers to this, like...

- It is complimentary to a "Defence in Depth" approach to Security. That is; one more control point, one more hurdle an attacker has to overcome.

- To protect your users, devices and servers from making post-exploitation call-backs.

- Perhaps the best reason of all... Because you're going to use DNS anyway - so why not do so SAFELY?!!
